We traveled with our daughter before we even knew what a DockATot was. We slept horribly. I don't mean waking up once or twice a night; I mean every 45-60 minutes. She hated the packnplays and would not sleep in the bed with us. We were resigned to the fact that when we traveled we would be doing so while sleep deprived.
In mid-2015 I found DockATot on Instagram believe it or not. I read through the comments, went to their website, saw the price, died a little, then decided to wait and see if things got better. They didn't. We were dying for real sleep when we weren't at home and even at home, the sleep was OK at best.
Fast forward a few weeks or months. I was in a moment of desperation. Several sleepless nights. I could not take it anymore. I needed something, ANYTHING. I went back to the DockATot website and bought both the Deluxe and Grand. BOTH. Desperation you guys, true desperation.
Once they arrived I felt like this was it! Everything would be better. We tried out the Deluxe, but she was too big. She was a chunky 8 month old, so we went straight to the Grand. At first, it wasn't better. We tried the DockATot for naps, then at night and nothing had changed. I was SO let down. We had a trip coming up for a week in Virginia and believe it or not, I didn't bring it.
And guess what? I DID NOT SLEEP FOR A WEEK. My husband wasn't with me and I was up every 30-60 minutes for 7 days straight. She got sick. The sleep got worse. She cried the entire two flights home. We were leaving in three days for another trip to Arizona. I felt like I was going to implode.
As soon as we got home, I threw the DockATot Grand into the bed and put her to sleep. THIS. THING. WOULD. WORK. It had to.
I didn't hear a peep from her for SEVEN HOURS STRAIGHT. SEVEN. She only woke up once in 12 hours to nurse. The longest night of sleep I had had in MONTHS. The next day, she took a 3 hour nap in the DockATot. Then slept 7pm to 7am the next night with only one wake up. Another 3 hour nap. And the next day was the same. WHAT IS THIS MAGIC?!?!
I packed up that DockATot and took it with me to Arizona. I assumed we wouldn't sleep at all that trip since she would be in a packnplay. I put the Grand in the packnplay and SHE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. She took at least a 3 hour nap EACH DAY of the trip. We later took it to New Orleans, Las Vegas, Virginia, friend's houses etc and SHE SLEPT EVERYWHERE.
Now, I don't know what voodoo is attached to this dang DockATot, but it worked a true miracle that only sleep deprived parents can fully appreciate. It took our crappy sleeper and flipped her to sleeping champ. Maybe a week after adjusting to it, she was sleeping through the night without waking at all. We became functioning humans again.
We now have 2 children and they each use a DockATot. Our son started with the Deluxe, but now they both sleep in their own Grands. My son is 11 months and our daughter is now 2.5. DockATot was kind enough to send us our second Grand AND their handy Dock Transport bag to try! The travel bag IS LEGIT. It holds BOTH grands + all the blankets, monitors, kids clothes & diapers. We don't need an extra bag for their stuff; we just use this bag!
We have traveled to 11 countries with our Docks and on many domestic trips. Our kids sleep on the road the same that they do at home. The DockATot gives them the feel, smell and look of their beds at home, so there is no huge shock of sleeping in a new place. It has been such a relief to know we can continue to travel and actually function through the day.
