Retreat Waiver and Release
New River Gorge Women's Retreat
Participant Waiver and Release of Liability
Hosted by Tavia Carlson / Big Brave Nomad · October 1–3, 2027 · Fayette County, West Virginia
Please read this carefully. By booking, you agree to everything below.
1. Voluntary participation. I am choosing to attend the New River Gorge Women's Retreat (the "Retreat") hosted by Tavia Carlson and Big Brave Nomad (together, the "Host"). The Retreat may include whitewater rafting, guided and self-guided hikes (including the Endless Wall and Long Point trails), the New River Gorge Bridge Walk, shared lodging at a private vacation rental, group meals, a fire pit, and other outdoor activities. Every activity is optional, and I may skip any activity at any time.
2. Outside providers. Rafting is provided by ACE Adventure Resort, and the Bridge Walk is provided by Bridge Walk LLC. These are independent companies with their own rules and their own waivers, which I agree to complete. The Host does not operate, control or supervise their activities, equipment or staff, and is not responsible for their actions.
3. Risks. I understand that outdoor and adventure activities carry real risks. These include, but are not limited to: falls, slips and trips on uneven or wet ground; drowning or injury in moving water; exposure to heat, cold and weather; heights; wildlife and insects; burns from fires or cooking; food-related illness or allergic reactions; and delays in reaching medical care in remote areas. Injury, illness, property damage, or in rare cases death can happen even when everyone is careful. I knowingly accept these risks.
4. My health and responsibility. I confirm I am in good enough health to take part in the activities I choose. I will tell the Host about any medical condition, allergy or medication that could affect my safety, and I will bring any medication I need. I will follow safety instructions from the Host and from outside providers, and I will make my own choices about which activities fit my ability.
5. Medical care. If I am injured or ill and can't make decisions for myself, I authorize the Host to seek emergency medical care for me and to share my emergency information with responders. I am responsible for any costs of that care.
6. Travel. I am responsible for my own travel to and from the Retreat and between activity sites. Any carpooling between participants is a private arrangement between those participants, not something the Host provides.
7. Alcohol. Alcohol is not provided. If I choose to bring and drink my own, I will do so responsibly and will not take part in water or height activities while impaired.
8. Release of liability. To the fullest extent allowed by law, I release and agree not to sue Tavia Carlson, Big Brave Nomad, and their family members, helpers and agents for any injury, illness, loss or damage connected to my participation in the Retreat, except where caused by their gross negligence or willful misconduct.
9. Indemnification. I agree to cover the Host for any claims, costs or legal fees that result from my own actions or from claims brought by me, my family, my heirs or my estate in connection with the Retreat, to the extent allowed by law.
10. Photos and video. I give the Host permission to use photos and video taken during the Retreat that may include me, on BigBraveNomad.com, social media, newsletters and promotional materials, without payment. If I don't want to appear, I'll tell Tavia in writing before the Retreat, and she will make reasonable efforts to leave me out.
11. Personal property. The Host is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal belongings, including phones and cameras on the river.
12. Payments and cancellation. Deposits and payments are nonrefundable. I may transfer my spot to another woman, who will pay any remaining balance. If the Host cancels the Retreat, I will receive a full refund of what I have paid.
13. General. This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. This is the full agreement about my participation and replaces any earlier discussions.
By checking the box and typing my name at booking, I confirm that I am 18 or older, that I have read and understand this waiver, and that I am signing it voluntarily.
