Hi, I’m Tavia, and welcome to Big Brave Nomad!

I’m an Air Force veteran, military spouse, and mom of three who believes kids belong on the trail, in the airport, and out exploring the world.

My journey started somewhat by accident. When my first baby was just 6 months old, we spent two weeks in Europe. When we got home, I was flooded with questions about how on earth we traveled with a baby. That led me to start this blog in 2016, and I haven’t stopped since.

Since then, I’ve explored 39 countries, 48 U.S. states, and 52 U.S. National Parks with kids in tow, often as a solo mom. I’ve changed diapers in national park parking lots, navigated airports with a toddler on my hip, and learned plenty of lessons the hard way, so you don’t have to.

Along the way, we’ve called Florida, California, and Barbados home. After three incredible years in Barbados, where our family grew from four to five, we moved back to just outside Washington, DC in 2025.

Here you’ll find detailed itineraries, honest tips, and real-world advice from someone who has actually done it with kids, from the mundane to the insane. I’m also a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and run the Solo Mom Travel community on Facebook, where more than 25,000 moms share tips and encouragement.

I’m so glad you’re here! Reach out with any questions and come say hi on social media. I’d love to hear from you.
