Best Time of Year to Visit Barbados?
What is the best time of year to visit Barbados?
The weather in Barbados is warm and tropical year-round, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (around 24-30°C).
The island experiences two main seasons: a dry season and a wet season. The best time to visit Barbados is during the dry season, which usually runs from December through May, when rainfall is lower, humidity is more comfortable, and sunny days are more consistent. This period is ideal for enjoying Barbados’ beaches, and outdoor activities, making it the most popular and pleasant time for travelers.
dry season is an excellent time to get in the hiking!
However, a very popular time of year to visit is Crop Over Season. This is the entire month of July and culminates with the Grand Kadooment Parade. (think Carnival in Brazil) Grand Kadooment is the vibrant finale of Barbados’ Crop Over Festival, where costumed bands, pulsating soca music, and nonstop dancing flood the streets in a joyful, all-island celebration of culture and freedom.
foreday parade and grand kadooment are incredible events in barbados!
Let’s get into the itinerary for the perfect week in Barbados!
Map of Barbados
Here is a full map of things you’ll be doing on your trip to Barbados. You can select or deselect the layers to only see certain days. I broke it down by day to make the Barbados itinerary easier to digest!
Little Bay, the elephant rock - barbados east coast
Friday
Welcome to Barbados! Today is going to be the start of an unforgettable adventure on the best island in the Eastern Caribbean. Get ready to experience the authentic island life, immerse in the culture, local food scene, and get off the beaten path.
On your first day you’ll start your morning either at the famous Surfers Café in Oistins, just down the street from the Oistins Fish Market OR at QP Bistro along Payne’s Bay near Holetown.
Surfer's Cafe
Surfer’s Cafe is a bright, welcoming, and perfect for a quick breakfast or drink before exploring the island. The café has excellent cappuccinos, a killer breakfast flat bread, and unmatched views of the Caribbean Ocean. If you can, try to get a spot by the windows. Also, be sure to use the restroom…trust me, it’s the best view from a bathroom!
From Surfer’s Cafe, you can either walk or drive to Miami Beach (Enterprise Beach) for a low key, slow day enjoying the ocean front or meet your tour guide for an epic island tour!
Miami beach is a gorgeous spot with trees, picnic tables, and white sand beaches!
Miami Beach is a spacious beach that offers room to spread out, shaded areas, and picnic tables, with waves on the eastern end and calmer swimming on the western side. Local vendors often sell beach snacks like fish cakes, snow cones, rum punch, and tacos, and you may even spot local artists set up near the sand.
QP Bistro
QP Bistro is one of the best restaurants along the West Coast in my humble opinion. They are only open for breakfast on Friday and Sunday and you do not want to miss it. Not only does QP Bistro have incredible drinks and food offerings, but the ambiance of this place is like NO OTHER in Barbados. It’s truly one of those experiences you don’t forget soon.
For a table at breakfast, you don’t need a reservation and there is no dress code. Be sure to talk a walk through the restaurant to take in all the hanging plants, indoor fish pond, and incredible views.
Bikini Beach Bar is an excellent place to spend the day soaking in the sun. You can walk here from QP Bistro. They offer loungers for rent. They usually charge $40 bbd for 2 sun beds and then it’s credited back to you for food/drinks as you lounge.
Batt’s Rock Beach is another incredible option for spending the day. The beach has excellent snorkeling, public restrooms, picnic tables, a playground, and you can walk down to the famous rock sculptures. Also, spend some time sitting on the gorgeous and low trafficked Paradise Beach. And if you want one of the truest Caribbean meal experiences on the island, have lunch or drinks at La Cabane. This is our favorite beach in Barbados.
Batt’s Rock is my fave beach in barbados. You can snorkel, check out the famous rock sculptures, and sit on paradise beach - and la cabane is a culinary experience!
Guided Tour: There are many tour guides available in Barbados, but I am going to recommend the three I am most familiar with.
An island tour is going to get you up close and personal to barbados. I like to start trips with a guided tour to learn about the culture, customs, and get aquainted with where I am visiting.
Robbie: Robbie is a friend of mine and drove my kids to school every day for 3 years. He’s part of our family and there is no one on the island I would trust more for an incredible island tour. He’s kind, he absolutely loves Barbados, and is extremely knowledgable about it’s history. A tour with Robbie would be a private tour of Barbados. His Whatsapp is: +1-246—230-0185 Please tell him Tavia sent you. He is also an excellent choice for an airport transfer if you are not renting a car.
Sweet Life Tours: We sent several family members on these tours while we lived in Barbados. This is a group tour of Barbados. They pick you up from the hotel in a bus and spend a whole day showcasing the best of the island with stops at Animal Flower Cave, The Garrison Savannah, Rhianna’s childhood home, and so much more! They also keep the rum punch flowing. You can book via Whatsapp: 1-246-823-4449 or on their website.
Bajan Bus Tour: This is a spunky tour that takes you on an open air bus tour (group) or their new mini bus for a smaller, more private tour of the island. This tour hits all the major highlights of BIM with excellent narration. You’ll have a little fun, hear great music, share good company, and perhaps partake a Rum Punch or two, onboard #1 Bajan bus. You can book via Whatsapp: 1-246-430-0900 or on their website.
animal flower cave is such a unique spot in barbados - you must see it while you’re visiting
After the day in the sun on the beach or the full day getting aquainted with the island on a tour, head back to your accomodations for a freshen up and a rest. Tonight is going to be very lively.
After 7 or 8 PM, head over to Oistins Fish Market for one of the most authentic Bajan experiences on the island. It’s especially lively on Friday nights, but relaxed the rest of the week. Fridays are when most of the shops/stalls are open.
Walk around the food stalls, grab grilled fish from Pat’s Place, and enjoy a cold Banks Beer to wrap up your first day in Barbados. If you have room, stop by R-TIC Melt for a fruity popsicle or ice cream from the famed Cheffette afterward—it’s the perfect sweet ending to the night.
Oistins Fish Market is more than just a place to eat - it’s a cultural experience. It’s where locals stop after work, families sit together at long tables, and the evening moves at an easy speed. Around the market, vendors hang bright, colorful clothes from their displays, adding to the lively atmosphere and reflecting the creativity and pride that are part of everyday life here. Sitting there with sandy feet and a plate of grilled fish, you start to see how closely food, culture, and community are connected here in the Eastern Caribbean.

Saturday
Not only can you get local produce, but the food stalls are incredible at brighton market
Today we’re heading over to start the day with the locals at the Brighton Farmer’s Market. This is an early market that runs from 6-10AM, but they have some of the best breakfast options on the island. Don’t miss the fish cutters on bakes from the Living Water Community, the locally sourced sausage and egg on salt bread from Cottage Meats, or an excellent coffee from The Carrot Cup. There are so many amazing food and local merch choices.
Take your time at the market and don’t forget to bring your reusable bags for shopping if you have them. Almost every shop takes credit cards, but having a little cash can’t hurt!
After breakfast, head back to the beach near or at your accomodation for a few hours to soak in the sun and island vibes. If you’re not staying along the beach, then be sure to check out one of the many Beach Clubs on the island where you can rent chairs and have a full service experience.
deia beach will be a good options if you plan to head to O2 spa
Deia Beach (Fancy, Lounge Chairs, Beach) - This beach club makes the most sense since it’s closest to the Spa!
The Boat Yard (Casual, Lounge Chairs, Snorkel, and Water Toys)
Copa Cabanna (Casual, Lounge Chairs)
Calma Beach Club (Fancy, Lounge Chairs)
Local & Co (Fancy, Lounge Chairs)
Fish Pot (Casual, Lounge Chairs and a floating Dock)
The Barbados Cruising Club (Casual, Lounge Chairs, no chair waiters)
After a few hours soaking in the sun, it’s time to head over for a late afternoon spa experience at O2 Spa. This is one of the best spas on the island in my experience. The service and the views are incredible. The Hammam Steam Room is such a unique experience - highly recommend!
the O2 spa is such a great spot to unwind and relax into the island life
After the sun sets, make your way to St. Lawrence Gap. The Gap is very walkable, making it easy to bar-hop, restaurant-hop, or simply stroll and people-watch without a plan. Enjoy local street vendors, stop into bars to catch a live band, or browse the Best of Barbados Gift Store.

The St lawrence gap is sunny and vibrant by day and lively and fun at night
Sunday
Today is an early morning, but it’s worth setting the alarm for. The first stop of the day isn’t coffee, it’s Pebbles Beach to swim (or watch) with horses! The horses are there every day, but Sunday is the day when many horses arrive for a swim.
In order to see the horses swim, you must get there early in the morning, typically around 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM. These are the horses from the nearby Garrison Savannah Racetrack. These thoroughbreds, some retired and some active racehorses, are calm and gentle, making it a safe and enchanting activity for kids and adults alike.
Pro Tip: Bring a little cash so you can grab a coffee from the PUC coffee tent that is set up at the horses
Watching the horses wade and swim in the sea against the backdrop of a stunning sunrise is simply breathtaking. It’s a unique opportunity to experience horses swimming and a must-do for any family looking for a memorable and serene start to their day in Barbados. There’s something incredibly grounding about standing quietly on the sand as the sun rises, watching them roll in the surf and swim through the calm water. It feels like a moment that belongs entirely to the island rather than something staged for visitors.
it is such a unique experience to see the horses swimming at pebble’s beach
After horses and coffee, walk down to the Hilton Barbados Resort. Here you are going to to walk past the gate guard and over to the historic Charles Fort. You do not need to be a guest of the property to visit.
Charles Fort is a great place to journey into the island’s colonial past and maritime history. This 17th-century fort is one of the oldest English forts in the Americas. As a matter of fact, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
you can see the fort to the far left of the resort
look over the wall and see if you can see cannons in the water!
Once you’ve gotten your photos and thoroughly explored the fort, it’s time to walk over to George Washington House. Did you know that George Washington only left the USA one time and it was visit his brother in Barbados? How cool!
The tour is about an hour long and pretty neat. After the tour, definitely grab a coffee and arepa from the George Washington Cafe. Their food is delish.
Once you’ve had a pick me up, start your walk back to Pebbles beach where you can grab a lunch to go from Cuz’s Fish Stand. This is one of the most popular local spots on the island, known for fresh fish cutters served on salt bread. Fish cutters are a staple in Barbados—simple, filling, and something people grow up eating here.
the double fish cutter with cheese from cuz’s
Tip: Cuz’s is cash only, and a traditional fish cutter costs around $15 BBD.
After grabbing your sandwiches, add a little local hot pepper sauce and wrap it up. You can stay right nearby for a day on the beach at the Barbados Cruising Club, or walk under the bridge and go further down to Brownes Beach. You can choose from Copacabana Beach Club for a more laid back vibe or head to The Boatyard where a snorkeling cruise is included with your entrance admission. You can also enjoy a water trampoline, water slide, and rope swing at this beach club if you’re feeling particularly adventurous!
the boatyard has water sports, a boat that takes you out to snorkel, lounge chairs, and full service of food and drink.
End the day with dinner at Lobster Alive! This unique spot is owned by a local who flies his own plan to the Grenadines to source rock lobster and brings it back fresh! You can even pick your own lobster from the tank! The little shop is known for it’s oceanfront setting, friendly service, and very laid back vibes. You can choose to eat in the restaurant or with toes in the sand. With the sound of the waves below and the sun setting over the water, Lobster Alive is the perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood, a glass of wine, and a relaxed evening to close out Day Three.
my kids loved going to the huge tank to pick out a lobster with our waiter!
Monday
Today, we’re heading out on the water with a laid-back sail along the coast on a catamaran. Mondays can be tricky in Barbados with many cafes closed after being open all weekend, so leaving land and heading for the open seas is a great alternative.
a day with silver moon - we saw a lot of very active sea turles
There are a few different options to choose from, depending on what you’re looking for, how much you want to spend, and whether you want a private or shared experience, so it’s best to call ahead and set up your catamaran tour in advance.
calypso is a family favorite with a very local captain and more down to earth vibes
I’ve personally sailed on Elegance, Silver Moon, and The Cat and The Fiddle, which are luxury options - Cat and the Fiddle being the top of the line. All offer open bars, food options, and swimming/snorkeling stops. The crews are attentive, keeping your drink filled and giving you advice on how to see the most turtles and fish.
a sunset sail with calypso
Three times we have privately rented Calypso Cruise with Captain Nick. We love this boat and it’s crew. They keep the food and drinks coming the entire ride. When you rent privately, you get to choose where to go and how the day will go. We love this option for large groups traveling together.
spent a day cruising with elegance - it was amazing
I have done both the morning and the afternoon cruises. They ride the same route, but if you’re looking for really great snorkeling the morning cruise is ideal. If you want a sailing more for relaxing and calm, then jump on an afternoon cruise for a dinner and sunset.
Other catamaran options include Cool Runnings, Tiami, and Ocean Daze.
cat & fiddle is definitely the most luxurious and also has water toys which are very fun
A catamaran ride is one of the best things to do on the island. I love the feel of the sun and ocean breeze, the chance to fully relax during the ride, and the authentic food on board. Snorkeling is always a highlight - especially when you’re surrounded by sea turtles. I also highly recommend taking the plunge and jumping off the side, if you’re feeling adventurous!
After your cruise, the day is yours. If you’ve drank a few too many rum punches then head back for a nap and a casual dinner. If you’re up for it - head out to the beach and keep the eternal summer going.

Tuesday
The west coast of Barbados is often called the Platinum Coast because it’s known for calm water, beautiful sunsets, and many of the island’s luxury resorts and restaurants. This stretch of coast has a more polished feel and is popular for swimming, snorkeling, and easy beach access.
Explore the Platinum Coast by heading to Local and Company for an incredible beach day. Typically open from around 10am to late evening, Local and Company is the perfect place to go for brunch and stay for the afternoon. This is a farm-to-table restaurant located right on the beach in Speightstown. The food is fresh, locally sourced, and prepared in simple ways. I really like the fish tacos here and think they serve a great burger! Their watermelon daiquiri is fruity, light, and refreshing.
local & Co has incredible food and drinks and the location is amazing. low traffic, but stunning
The space is set in a historic building and includes a marketplace with artisan products, a rum bar with craft cocktails, and outdoor seating with ocean views. After eating, you can spend the day relaxing in an ocean lounge chair, swimming in the turquoise waters, and finding the perfect seashell.
be sure to find the really cool murals in speightstown!
Exploring Speightstown is a great way to experience a quieter, more local side of Barbados. This historic seaside town on the Platinum Coast feels relaxed and unhurried, making it easy to wander without a plan. Walk along the main street, pop into small shops, and take in views from the pier. Be sure to check out PRC Bakery or Suga Mama Barbados for local pastries and ice cream.
Caboose is a local favorite for it’s fish cutter and rum punch.
After soaking in the sun and perusing the village of Speightstown, walk down toward Heywoods Beach where you’ll find a boat out of the water on the right. This is Caboose! A local gem and rightly so. The fish cutters here are incredible. Caboose also makes it’s own rum punch. Snag a couple of sandwiches and walk down the pier to have a quiet, casual dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Wednesday
Today you are headed to Bathsheba. Exploring the east side of the island offers a completely different side of Barbados - rugged, lush, and serene.
You can start the day with breakfast at your accommodation or head over to the Farm House for arguably the best breakfast on the island. The Farm House is a farm to table restaurant with a menu featuring local meat, produce, & talent. Located on 100 acres of cliff side farm land at PEG Farm & Nature Reserve.
After breakfast, you can either head to Hunte’s Garden or head out to hike Chalky Mount to Picture Hole.
Hunte’s Garden is a gorgeous place to learn about and see hundreds of different tropical plants.
Hunte's Garden
A short drive inland brings you to Hunte’s Gardens, one of the most beautiful spots on the island. This tropical garden is tucked into a lush sinkhole and feels like a hidden oasis. You can walk along winding paths surrounded by vibrant flowers, towering palms, and tropical plants, all set to soft classical music playing throughout the gardens. It’s calm, colorful, and a perfect place to slow down and explore at your own pace. There is a fun scavenger hunt that my kids enjoyed while walking through the gardens and also a place to stop for a cold lemonade and/or slice of banana bread. Also be prepare to meet Mr. Hunte! Yes, he still frequents the garden and loves to chat!
hunte’s has a small cafe where you can get a slice of cake and coffee or rum punch.
Hike Chalky Mount to Picture Hole
I have a guide to the Best Hikes in Barbados with an entire section detailing Chalky Mount. This is one of the most rewarding hikes with a very instagramable ending. I suggest starting this hike from Barclay’s Park!
After exploring the gardens or hiking, you’re going to be hungry again. There are two restaurants around Bathsheba I recommend - Zemi Cafe or Round House.
Zemi Café is for a relaxed meal or coffee. This small, casual café is a great place to refuel with fresh, simple dishes, baked goods, and drinks. We enjoyed the watermelon juice, passion fruit mojitos, deviled eggs topped with octopus, and the fresh fish here. The setting is peaceful and laid-back, with direct views of the coastline.
Round House is a laid back micro hotel with a stunning restaurant area. Here you’ll find unmatched views down to the Bathsheba tide pools, really great locally sourced food, and a friendly staff. This is my go-to spot when I am on the East Coast.
round house has delicious food, excellent views, and the best ginger rum sour on the island.
After lunch, you’re going to want to explore the tide pools and cave pools at Bathsheba. Now, the tide must be low in order to experience this, so be sure to check the tide charts. If the tide is high, it is extremely unsafe to swim here.
swimming in these cave pools is truly a once in a life time experience. the cave pools at bathsheba are so deep I can’t stand with my head above water!
On the map I marked where the swimmable cave pool is - it’s honestly one of the most incredible and serene places on the entire island. It’s not well know and very low trafficked, so you may have the place to yourself. Again, very important you go at low tide.
the bathsheba tide pools are down on the beach right under round house
The Bathsheba tide pools however are vast and many locals use them to float and soak. The entrance for these is most easily found right at the foot of Round House.
Together, Bathsheba, Hunte’s Gardens, and Zemi Café make for a beautiful day of exploring - full of nature, scenery, and slower, laid-back moments.
Barbados’ East coast is incredible - it’s completely in contrast to the calm waters of the east coast
Bathsheba is known for its dramatic coastline, rolling waves, and giant rock formations scattered along the shore. This side of Barbados feels wild and untouched, almost like another planet. The coastline of Bathsheba is perfect for walking along the beach, finding seashells, and inspecting the many sea pools.
While the water over here isn’t safe for swimming, it is world renown spot for Surfing. Barbados’ East coast is home to the Soup Bowl; an internationally recognized surf spot.

this natural cave is stunning and a must visit on your trip to barbados
Thursday
Today is your last full day on the island. You have been experienced the culture, the food, the ecology of Barbados and now is a day to relax by the Caribbean Ocean, get last minute souvenirs, and eat like a king.
Today will start with a breakfast in Holetown. I couldn’t decide which breakfast spot to recommend, so I am recommending a full English breakfast from Cafe Carizma. Their breakfast and coffee is really nice. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is right on track for the island life.
If you’d rather have an ocean front breakfast, head to Zaccio’s where they have a gorgeous ocean front patio. I have only had lunch there, but it was SO GOOD. The service is prompt and friendly.
After breakfast walk down to Calma Beach Club. You can grab a couple of lounge chairs and start your last day in style. I love Calma Beach Club because the snorkeling is always top tier and the food is so good, but the vibes are slow and chill. The beach here is unique because the artificial reef creates crystal clear water that is absolutely perfect and calm. I definitely recommend the whipped ricotta for lunch and try one of their signature cocktails or a bucket of Banks beer.
calma beach club is at the dead center of this photo behind the reef. private lounge chairs, excellent snorkeling, and calm waters.
After an incredibly day in the sun, it’s time to pack up the towels and sunscreen and head over to Chattel House Village for souvenirs. Here you will find several shops dedicated to Barbados souvenirs and goods. From a cigar shop to the Best of Barbados and Ganzee, they have anything you could want here. If you’re looking for some higher end gifts or shopping, walk about a block down to Lime Grove where there are high end art galleries, gift shops, and boutiques.
chattel house village is a collection of souvenier shops and local shops
After a late afternoon of shopping and packing up for departure tomorrow, it’s time to get ready for the grande finale of your time on the island.
Tonight you’ll be experiencing so many of Barbados’ traditions, dances, and food at the Harbour Lights Dinner Show! Here you’re going to be greeted with a rum punch, then a high energy show packed with fire dancers, stilt walkers, shaggy dog, Mother Sally, crop over dancers, and so much more! They serve a delicious dinner and keep the drinks flowing all night long.
Check out my video re-capping Harbor Lights to see what the show is all about!
You will need to book tickets online in advance HERE.
harbor lights is a miust do while in barbados - you get the feel for so many different important cultural characters like mother sally and fire dancers!
Today was magical. This week was magical. Tonight you can rest knowing you got the full experience of beautiful Barbados.
Departure Day
It’s departure day! Today you’ll wake up and check out of the hotel or Airbnb. Then you’ll head straight to the airport for an early flight.
Pro Tip: At the airport, be SURE to visit the Green Monkey Chocolatier. This is some of the best chocolate and it’s made right in Barbados.
If you’re flight is later in the day, then I have many other suggestions on how to fill your time. Check out my guide to the Best Things to do in Barbados or my guide to FREE things to do Barbados if your wallet is needing a break.
bottom bay is stunning and if you hire a photographer, this is a cool place to take photos.

This comprehensive one-week Barbados itinerary will take you on an unforgettable adventure filled with diverse experiences and breath taking sights. Barbados is calling and you must go!
batt’s rock beach from the sky
As an American Expat living in Barbados, the island changed the way I move through my days. I’ve learned to slow down in a way I didn’t even realize I needed - letting days unfold without rushing and allowing plans to stay flexible instead of packed. One of the biggest changes has been learning how to be patient, whether it’s waiting for food, the traffic to move, or the rain to pass so I can jump into the water. Over time, I’ve noticed how much easier it feels to accept these pauses without frustration. They’ve become part of the natural rhythm of life here, reminding me that not everything needs to happen immediately. Even when I’m still thinking ahead, the days feel calmer and more balanced when I allow myself to move at the island’s slower pace.
Have you been to Barbados? Tell me about where you went and what you loved the most in the comments.
